A place where I talk about stuff

What have I been up too?

Wow! I have been really bad about updating this pseudo-blog. But things will be kicking into gear at the ol' J.K. Campbell writing and publishing factory this summer. The short story I promised in my last post? Put it aside for awhile. The past 6 months I've been studying writing and publishing, taking courses and listening to many people much wiser than me about such things. In particular, I'd like to give a shout out to the following: Derek Murphy, on publishing and marketing, Geoff Shaw (Udemy instructor) on writing and publishing, Nick Stephenson on building email lists, Tim Grahl on building author platforms, Chris Fox about Writing to Market (check out his book!), and finally several really good podcast: The Self Publishing Podcast, The Rocking Self Publishing podcast, The Creative Penn podcast, Writing Excuses podcast, The Author Biz, etc. The list goes on and on, but the above names have all been fantastic. Just google their names to find out more about them.

In the future, I will briefly talk about some of their great interviews and information. Also, a brief rundown on the projects I'm working on.

  • Winda the Witch:Tales of the Spooky Folk, in paperback. Coming late summer.
  • A spooky sequel to Winda. Not much details yet, but it will be a direct sequel and take place the following Halloween. Charlotte, the human girl that Winda and friends met and became pals with in the human world, will get to take her own trip Over the Wall and explore the world of Octoberlund. This will probably conclude the Middle Grade age group stories for these characters. I have a pretty big story premise for Winda and Co as a Young Adult trilogy, that involves the King and Queen of Octoberlund, Scarecrow Guards, Re-Animation City, War, and other events more suited to teenage readers. And possibly a little blooming romance between two of the characters...but that will come later. Expect the sequel in time for Halloween 2016.
  • A brand new series! Young Adult, it will be like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Taking place in a world where the Sun is dying, the Moon is pale, and the Night is long...Sun Knights and  Moon Rangers battle for the fate of their world. Will write them as a series of short reads, which are like novelette or novella length offerings that will add up to a full size novel in the end. I have the first book outlined and have started writing it.

That's all for now, take care Spooky Fans!

Alright! Just finished rough draft of a new short story. Working title is Larry, Sally and Me: More Tales of the Spooky Folk. It takes place a few years earlier than the events in Winda the Witch. Also, readers are introduced to Larry the Werewolf and Sally the Spectre for the first time (Winda's best friends). I'll post it here on the website for you guys to read when I'm done.

In other news, this website is a work in progress. Still learning how to build it, and about it's pluses and minuses. I might have to move this blog to a free Wordpress site, since there is not a Comments section capability. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to get in touch via my Contact page
