Join Winda and her friends Gobbler the Watch-o'-lantern and Weatherby the Warlock as they travel Through the Gate and Over the Wall. Get on board Winda's enchanted broom as the friends fly across the magical land of Octoberlund and into the forbidden Human land. Come along on an adventure filled with danger and wonder, and candy. For tonight is the real Halloween, and Winda intends to scare up some fun. It just so happens that along the way, she discovers who she really is, and where she truly belongs!

"Winda the Witch: Tales of the Spooky Folk is a children and preteen’s supernatural novella written by J.K. Campbell. Winda the witch is not supposed to be attending the Spooky Folk March this year. As she had just turned twelve, she would finally have been able to do so, but she’s been grounded for power and temper issues. Instead of joining the witches and warlocks as they travel to the border between their homeland of Octoberlund and the human realm, she’s supposed to be babysitting her younger brother and sister.
Gobbler, the family’s Watch-o’-Lantern, has been a friend to Winda and has gotten to know her as she was growing up for the last twelve years, so he’s convinced that she’s not taking missing out on the festivities lightly. He figures she’s got some sort of plan brewing, and he’s right. Winda’s been looking at the world of the humans through her parents’ Scrying Pool, and she wonders what it would be like to live there. But whatever adventure she has planned for Halloween, Gobbler is determined to go with her.

J.K. Campbell’s children and preteen supernatural novella, Winda the Witch, is an original and imaginative story about a young witch’s Halloween adventures in the human realm. Campbell’s characters are marvelous; you can just visualize Gobbler with his spindly arms and legs and see Weatherby, whose transformation into a cat by Winda starts the whole adventure going.
Campbell is a consummate storyteller, and he masterfully sets the stage for the invasion of the Spooky Folk. While this is geared toward children and preteens, Winda the Witch works quite well as a coming of age story that will be appreciated by anyone for whom Halloween still has a touch of magic to it. As it’s one of my favorite holidays, I quickly fell in love with this humorous, witty and spooky debut novella. Winda the Witch: Tales of the Spooky Folk is most highly recommended."
